Oops, no it doesn't, the bug is in my brain's visual processing
software.  I took the test image and turned it on its side in software,
and it looked completely different, so I panicked and started looking
for bugs.  Eventually I tried looking at the test image with my head on
one side, and it turns out that it's _supposed_ to look completely
different. 

AI people trying to figure out visual perception may find this
interesting.
