It currently has a dedicated printer which I want to put on our Unix network (consisting of all Sun3's and Sun4's running 4.0.3). Actually, it doesn't matter to me whether the printer is connected to the Mac or a Sun, as long as all machines can print to it. What is the best and cheapest way to accomplish this task? I thought if I buy an ethernet card for the Mac, I can get ru-cap2 and uab+ packages to route the Mac's printjob to the Suns, even though I don't have Kinetics or other bridge boxes. Is this true? I have used CAP and KIP before at another site (which did have a Kinetics box), so I know that it is possible if I have a bridge box, but I'm not sure if UAB+ was designed to replace bridge boxes for this purpose. I've obtained and perused through the docs for both ru-cap2 and uab+, but it wasn't apparent to me if what I want to do is possible. What would my bridge_desc file look like? Are there other solutions besides CAP and UAB? Is there an FAQ for this question? Thanks, -- John Sin ...!(uunet,ucbvax,rutgers)!seas.ucla.edu!jsin UCLA EE Dept. 53-109 Engr.IV Los Angeles, CA 90024 (213)206-7983
