Message-ID: <801.664020618@UK.AC.UCL.CS> Date: 16 Jan 91 12:02:53 GMT Lines: 31 Approved: usenet@ICS.UCI.EDU In-reply-to: Your message of Mon, 14 Jan 91 10:05:32 -0800. <9101141805.AA10190@polya.Eng.Sun.COM> Phone: +44-71-380-7294 A VERY useful job for someone to do would be to collect all "known" OIDs which have been assigned (or agreed on the basis of someone elses assignment) by the owner of the format. These should be published in some way (RFC? NIST/OIW DOcument? Message sent at intervals to this list?). The existence of this document will have two benefits: 1) It will allow many of us to co-ordinate experiments 2) It will allow for ad hoc assignments to be resolved 3) The document will be seen by many, and this will spur on new assignements, particularly for well known and useful formats (we hope!) Suggestion: How about Kee Hinckley taking his list and formatting it as in Internet Draft. Then circulate to this list ans submit by the usual procedures. There should be a table of: OID Document format (as clear a definition as possible, including version numbers) Authority of assignment (e.g., by format owner, agreed by format owner, format owner informed) (If Kee doesn't want to do this, are there any other volunteers?)
