Sun's ypserv can be made to use the DNS when ever a host can't be found in the YP database. All it takes is a little mod to the /var/yp/Makefile. So, what I do is keep a small host file and all is well. I have heard rumors that this is a bad combo on really loaded nets, but I have not seen any problems with using this scheme as of today.
