Summary: Can PC-NFS use DNS than YP? Keywords: PC-NFS, DNS, !YP Message-ID: <1991Jan15.195508.26254@massey.ac.nz> Date: 15 Jan 91 19:55:08 GMT References: <1991Jan15.020852.15686@lingua.cltr.uq.OZ.AU> Organization: Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand Lines: 15 X-Reader: NETNEWS/PC Version 2.2 I don't believe it is possible to use a DNS rather than YP. We have YP off and found that a convenient way for all our local hosts was to ensure that all our PC have NFSDRIVE set to P:, our public drive. The hosts file in P:\NFS\HOSTS has all our local hosts and the more common non-local ones. This file is updated every night. In our experience this scheme has worked OK. It can but currently isn't be augmented by a 'rsh server nslookup' command for the uncommon hosts. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Glen Eustace, Software Manager, Computer Centre, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand.
