    I have the tn3270 program, but from what I've heard, I need a different
    protocol to talk to the IBM AS/400, which is said to be the 5250 protocol.

IBM has apparently developed a 5250-over-Telnet scheme, which may or may not
resemble current 3270-over-Telnet practice.  I am not aware of any movement
to publish this as a standard, but maybe I haven't asked in the right places.
