The idea behind this was to allow hosts/terminal servers that don't care about negotiations after the initial setup phase to be able to stop looking for them, and gain the efficiency that you are talking about. This RFC has been up before the IETF telnet working group, on and off again. We can't seem to decide whether the potential usefullness of the option outweighs the fact that it's such a disgusting kludge. Bill Westfield cisco Systems. -------
