There is a project of Zip for Unix , but they are still at the beta phase. Some of the people who worked on the portable UnZip contribute to this effort. It turns out that creating a Zipper from the publicized specifications is not trivial, but they are getting there. Watch This Space For Future Developments! I think lharc is a better solution anyway as it achieves the same compression-efficiency (sometimes better) and is public domain. And sometimes worse compression.
