The Amiga is a But many of the PC's out there are not used by people who us the DOS command line, but stay only in a menuing system or program selector like Uniplex, the DOS 4.0 Shell, etc. And I have seen MANY IBM's that were set up to load 1-2-3 at boot time, and if you tried to use the "Quit" option just executed 1-2-3 again so the user couldn't get to the command line (without knowing what they were doing). You have to remember MOST of the PC compat machines sold for the first half of that type of machines life were sold for use in business, not home, and I would bet that that is STILL the majority of sales or of sales related to people buying for use at home what they have at work so that they can work at home. >We both agree that the Mac would be nicer if you could do more in less >memory. We also both agree that the Mac has a superior user interface, >even if it requires significant effort to program and is near impossible >to port from. I have to disagree there. I haven't seen anyting that the Mac has in it's UI that isn't in AmigaDOS 2.0, or couldn't be put in there by a very simple utility. Doing so would NOT be a "hack" but would simply be adding a feature to the UI without forcing people to have it all the time. I know I HATE the Mac window open/close functions, with there annoying growing/shrinking boxes. When I click a window to open close it, it should close ASAP. Under 2.0 you can have all kinds of nice utilities that use the "Commodities Exchange" to do things like blank the screen or accellerate the mouse, and not run into any problems utilities fighting amongst themselves. And in fact, there are MANY features of AmigaDOS 2.0 that the Mac UI lacks. Dave
