I'd like to help you. I am the author of the original ST Xformer emulator (for the Atari ST) which emulates the Apple II, Atari 800, Atari 130XE, and Commodore 64 emulators. Fully working versions of the Apple II and C64 emulators were never released to the public, while the Atari 800 and Atari 130XE emulators were released as shareware. The spec of the ST Xformer is roughtly this: on an 8MHz Atari ST it emulates the 6502 at about 50% normal speed. This is about twice as fast as other 6502 emulators I have seen (such as the C64 emulators for the Amiga). By changing the image of the ROMs and making minor changes in the hardware emulation code, the emulator can be made to emulate almost any 6502 based computer. To allow for easy file transfers, I developed a special cable, known as the Xformer Cable, which connects an Atari 800 disk drive directly to an Atari ST and allows you to boot the Atari 800 software without having to copy it to ST disks first. I have seen that a similar cable already exists for connecting Commodore 64 disk drives to the Amiga. Recently, I ported the ST Xformer to an IBM PC and now it is possible to emulate either the Apple II or Atari 800 on any PC at 20% to 500% the speed of the real 6502 (depending on whether you have a PC, XT, AT, 386 or 486). Having stumbled onto this newsgroup, I see that the interest in 6502 emulators for Amigas may be even higher than the interest in 6502 emulators on the Atari ST. So if there is someone really interested in seeing my emulator ported to the Amiga, I'd be interested in doing that. My only problem is that I don't own an Amiga, so I would need to hook up with someone here in the Seattle area that has an Amiga development system. Given the similarities between the ST and Amiga, an emulator of similar speed can be written for the Amiga. I would especially be interested in getting my hands on an Amiga 3000 to write a 68030 version of the emulator, since after years of waiting, I have become fed up with Atari's inability to ship a 68030 machine. - Darek ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Darek Mihocka (206)-885-5893 All views expressed are my own.
