I doubt it. It seems that the newer chips (and the older chips too) aren't broken, they just changed how the chips reacts in certain situations. The new ROM could figure out which chip you have and Do The Right Thing. I think it was mentioned that it would be difficult to come up with code that worked for both chips. (verification that?)
