Widow & orphan protection is a means to eliminate the very annoying habit
some word processors have of leaving one line of a paragraph at the beginning
or end of a page and the rest on a different page.  I know the PC version of
WordPerfect has widow & orphan protection.  Maybe the Apple version has it too.
