One solution to this problem is to use an HP-IB to
Centronics converted (on the order of $100). We obtained
such a product from Intelligent Interfaces
                    PO Box 1486
                    Stone Mountain GA 30086
                    (800) 842-0888
The product name was "MicroPort 45"

Another solution is to use the RS232 interface on the
laser printer.  The beauty of the HPIB to Centronics
converted is that you don't need to use an interface
slot
