I don't think you can do everything you want with just 1Meg (I had 2 but went up to 4). If I remember right, I had a 160K and a 256K application running which left me just shy of opening a 512K byte DOS window, before I added the extra 2Meg of memory. Your mileage may vary, of course. I find DESQview to take up less memory and have less processing overhead than windows. DESQview is better if you're interested in multi-tasking communications tasks, but doesn't handle swapped graphics (VGA ->) so well.
