The Trackman costs about $5 more, but you won't need to buy a pad. If you have a limited amount of desk space, the trackman has a big advantage over constantly having to push things out of the way to use a mouse. Another thing to think about: if you're going to use it with a laptop, there will be many times when you absolutely cannot use the mouse (like on a plane, for example) because you're lucky if you can find a stable place for the keyboard, let alone a second whole area for the mouse.
