Given that "x51" has Suitcase 1.2.6, why not use that to change the number of
open files?  Click on the "Settings..." button, which brings up another mini
dialog.  In that dialog, click on the "Power User Settings..." button.  One of
the options there let's you change the maximum number of open files.
