Subject: using stdin & stdout in a Shell-Script or C-prog

I am trying to do the following:

cd bs; tar cxvBf - . | (cd ../bs2; tar xpvoBf -)

-or-

rsh host2 "(cd bsdir; tar cvBf - .)" | (cd todir; tar -xpoBf -)

I want to xeq this command in a c program.  But the use of stdout/stdin is not
correct.  Is there any suggestions anyone can give me on the correct way to
call this sequence of commands within a c-program?
