Kirk Signetics make a whole range of digitally controlled things :-) such as volume controls, tone controls ... that are controlled via their IIC bus (I forget what this stands for). This is a slow (100KHz) serial bus with one clock line and one (? two) data lines so the chips are small (lots of 8 pin DIPs), cheap and easy on board space . They have things like dot matrix displays with built-in decoders and keyboard encoders, 2K EEprom (in 8 bit dip) and so on. The range filled an A4 page's worth last time I looked. I haven't used these (yet) - I'm waiting till I've got forth running on an 8031 so I can do it interactively - but those I know that have rave about the chips and the range. Signetics use them for the insides of their TV sets ... I have no connection with Phillips/Signetics other than an interested observer and pending customer :-) Cheers Giovanni -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Giovanni Moretti, Consultant | G.Moretti@massey.ac.nz, Pkt-ZL2BOI@ZL2BFJ Computer Centre, Massey University| Ph 64 63 69099 x8398, FAX 64 63 505607 Palmerston North, New Zealand | QUITTERS NEVER WIN, WINNERS NEVER QUIT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
