I am aware of some seriously >pricy 24 bit display stuff for Mac, but it represents about half the >cost of the machine, and is not likely to be in the budget of the >average person, or even company unless they have an actual need. well, for PC's there is the Hercules Graphics Station. it's a TIGA beast with a TMS34010 at 60MHz, and can do 24 bit color. unfortunately they (IMHO) fucked up, since you can only put 2MB on it. the consequence is, that you can't have 24 bit color at the highest resolution (1024x768), which would require 2.3MB :-( however, the 512x482x24 picture in BYTE was quite nice. the list price is $1024 with 1MB. see BYTE Oct.
