You are using the 1.1 or 1.2 version of the "g" driver.  These versions
had the nasty bug that a role switch always ended up with a hangup :-)
A working version can be found on the "plains.NoDak.edu" server.

I am preparing a complete rewrite of the UUCP package right now.  A
certain person in the US (listening?) was to send me some diffs, but
I am afraid he fell asleep :-(
