These Ricoh  SCSI  drives  are   now  advertised  for  about    $2,000  in Mac
publications.  Does anyone have any  experience with them?  Are they reliable?
Do they suffer from dust or data fading problems? Are they mechanically sound?
Is  there   a  Unix driver   (disktab,   etc.) for these devices?  Information
appreciated.

Incidentally, the best  prices  for DAT drives  appear  to  be HP  DAT drives;
their mail-order price is now about $1,600.
