The door will try to close, but don't let it! Wait AT LEAST 20 seconds before letting it close, then hurry over to the teleporter lever. After you turn on the teleporter, turn around to face it. Next, launch your most powerful fireballs until you run out of mana, then jump in the pit. Be sure to turn off the teleporter, first! The gate should be open, now, and you can retrieve the key.
