Message-ID: <1991Jan24.145554.29520@nntp-server.caltech.edu> Date: 24 Jan 91 14:55:54 GMT Sender: toddpw@nntp-server.caltech.edu (Todd P. Whitesel) Organization: California Institute of Technology, Pasadena Lines: 17 back when I was using 5.0.3 I noticed some bad files (gif files usually) and occasional block overwriting -- I went back to 5.0.2, kept my HD partitions locked as often as possible, etc. When 5.0.4 came out, I maintained the locked partitions policy (unlocking only to do maintenance in finder or Orca). Recently, the $51 errors have been popping up again -- in my GIF directories again. (I had some sound files die also but there was maybe one or two.) Why the hell is error $51 so bad-ass nasty that the ProDOS FST won't let you do jack (i.e. FILETYPE with a wildcard in Orca or even rename a specific file in the finder) ?? On a related note, are there any cheap/free Prodos disk recoverers that can handle hard drive size (i.e. 32 Meg) volumes? Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu
