In my experiences with the fx, if there is a problem on the SCSI bus, the fx just flat won't even boot. This can be correlated back to the earlier macs as well, they bomb or give a quickly blinking bomb box on boot up if there is a problem in the SCSI chain. Maybe someone else out there with an fx has had similar problems and can share them and their solution.
