Summary: Mac+ slows down while duplicating and copying files Keywords: DeskTop, Mac plus, Message-ID: <8619@hub.ucsb.edu> Date: 29 Jan 91 23:40:56 GMT References: <42986@nigel.ee.udel.edu> <42987@nigel.ee.udel.edu> Sender: news@hub.ucsb.edu Reply-To: hflai@squid.ucsb.edu.UUCP (Hsun-Feng Lai) Organization: University of California, Santa Barbara Lines: 22 Recently, I found my Mac plus slows down while it duplicates files. It takes very long(1 to 2 minutes) to update the desktop files. And sometimes, it also takes long for the system to launch a application. The configuration is as follows: Mac Plus with 2.5MB RAM LaCie 80MB HD and System 6.0.5 There are probably 2100 files on the HD and it 90% full. I used Norton and DIsk Express II to optimize the disk, but they don't help much with the slow desktop updating. The Norton Utility tells me that the system is using B-Tree to keep the infomation about files. This really confuses me since the update of a B-tree should be fast and it comes out poor. I don't know if there is anything I can do with the slow-down. Any suggestion is welcomed, either hardware or software patch. /*************************************************************************** * Hsun-Feng Lai * hflai@squid.ucsb.edu * ECE, UCSB ***************************************************************************/
