Yes, I can insert a percent sign at the front of every line, but I want something simpler, like C's "#if 0" and "#endif" preprocessor directives. Many solutions have already been suggested, but let me just point out that the verbatim.sty file by Rainer Sch\"opf also contains a comment environment.
