Earlier I complained about erratic spacing when using the
Times (native postscript) fonts in TeX in conjunction with
"dvi2ps" (really, dvi3ps).

I have installed the latest version of dvips (namely, 
dvips546 from labrea.stanford.edu) and all my problems
have gone away.  Moreover, the latex "sty" files shipped
with this source fix some of the problems I complained about
earlier, such as missing capital Greek letters and missing
math accents.
