Here's an alternative to using tpic.  You can get pic output from xpic, 
and then use pic2fig to convert it to Fig code format and use TransFig
to get it into a LaTeX document.

Even better would be if someone wrote a direct xpic-to-fig conversion program.
Or make your like easier: use xfig instead of xpic!
