Whyzat?  Have you ever had to handle a custom DCE with, say, SUN's
UUCP?  Good luck. The concept of the external dialer program is quite
an EXCELLENT facility.  I often point to the feature as an example of
the great added-value SCO offers above vanilla-UNIX.
