I seem to remember an posting/message here that announced the present or imminent existence of a package that emulated the Mac toolkit - and perhaps other Mac ROM and System calls - on UNIX systems running X. I don't have that message handy, and I don't know whether the product came out or whether the aforementioned legal annoyances killed it or whether something else happened.
