Summary: Request for suggestions on HS modems Keywords: 9600, Intel, Practical Peripherals Message-ID: <59479@aurs01.UUCP> Date: 26 Jan 91 19:40:34 GMT Sender: news@aurs01.UUCP Reply-To: luce@aurw46.UUCP (J. Sysop prices: Intel 9600EX $399 Practical Peripherals 9600SA $339 I wish I could say USR was reasonable, but I can't. Bottom line is that neither are V.32bis but are V.32 w/ MNP-5 and V.42. Intel says upgrade to V.32bis will be a new modem. PP says (incorrectly I believe) that it will only need a ROM upgrade to accomplish V.32bis. What does V.32bis buy me? Most of my transmissions are of the 20 minute variety about 3-4 times per day. 1 set being LD. My phone line (as we all know by now) is not clean. The rest of my BBS day is 2400/1200 baud callers. Which is the better modem.? Should I wait for the V.32bis? How does the Telebit 1600 fit into all this and what does it price out at? Mail is an iffy proposition to me, but if you wanna try it, go ahead. Otherwise, I always read this group. Thanks, y'all. ------------------------------------------------------------------- John Luce | Life is the leading cause of death Alcatel Network Systems | ----------------------------------------- Raleigh, NC | Standard Disclaimer Applies 919-850-6787 | Mail?
