From HP's PostScript cartridge user's guide 33439-90901 pg 2-11 CAUTION: Do not insert the PostScript cartridge while the printer is turned on. pg 2-18 CAUTION: Do not remove the PostScript cartridge while the printer is turned on. pg 3-1 ...Your printer therefore can have different operating mode: * PCL mode (without your PostScript cartridge installed). * PostScript mode (with your PostScript cartridge installed).
