Votes to pascal@uwalt.nl.mugnet.org. please... In my opinion, this discussion is of general interest. I really want to get binaries, because my neighbour want to use MINIX on my machine for learning programming. He do not know anything about programming and pascal seems to be a better choice than c. If the pascal binaries would be free available, up to five or six of my friends would by MINIX. They like the UNIX environment, the shell, virtual terminals and protected mode when seeing me working, but none of them wants to learn c for programming. Since Version 1.5, MINIX is a wonderful system for learning programming. One of my friends bought it last week. I will install it and check it every three month or so. He will get a usual user login, just for using it. MINIX is stable enough for running three months or longer without seeing root at all. Users log in and out, do text processing and compile their own sources. Posting the pascal compiler binaries would increase *USING* MINIX. MINIX has all tools: a few good editors, a fine shell, a true make, SVC etc. and: a user can't crash the system in protected mode! MINIX is a inexpensive system, but 150 $ for a pascal compiler is too much for people who have no use for its sources. Binaries should be free available, similiar to the C compiler. Summary: Please try to convince to (c) holder. Namaskaar Michael Haardt (u31b3hs%cip-s01.informatik.rwth-aachen.de@unido.bitnet) PS: You will see Origami in two weeks, if nothing bad happens.
