Mtools 1.6.2 is out of date; the most recent version (as far as I know) is
2.0.3. I can exchange files between my SparcStation and my Atari ST (no
flames please) really fine. The current version of Mtools and all the
patches are available via anonymous ftp from cerl.cecer.army.mil
(129.229.1.101).
