Subject: Handshake and Kermit: what happened?

I used to be able to ul and dl files directly from VM/CMS I*M 3090 into
my amy using Handshake.  But recently after typing "KERMIT", I get the
following response:
                    "An ASCII terminal must be used."
Now, I have never changed anything on Handshake, so why does what used
to work with no problem now give me a hard time?  Changing my settings
offered no assistance.

Is there a command to tell KERMIT before typing KERMIT that my terminal is
ASCII.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
