Sorry to post this to the net but in this case, the mail just didn't go
through.

In DCI you don't need the fireballs to get the shield.  Once you have the
shield, you can just let the broom sweep through you, or, you can keep
hitting it enough to make it small.  Eventually all of the extra brooms
disappear and then you can easily jump over the remaining small broom.
