Sounds a lot like a bad power supply.  I had similar problems with my C64 a few
years ago, and it turned out to be the power supply.  If your still running
with the original PS, I would say get a new one.

Of course, that's probably sound advice for anyone running an A500 with any
kind of peripherals at all, considering the grief I've seen attributed to
flakey A500 PS's posted here.
