The end result of connecting the converter between > the Rainbow and the printer is that only the first several > lines of a full page document are printed ... this is > consistent with all documents and spreadsheets. Any ideas Sounds like you're overrunning the printer's buffer. The DEC LA-50 printer uses pin 11 as a ready/busy line. When its buffer is nearly full it toggles pin 11, telling the Rainbow to stop sending characters. When the buffer empties, pin 11 goes back to its original state, telling the Rainbow to resume. Some of the serial to parallel converters do not support ready/busy protocol. Others have the ready/busy line on pin 20 (DTR). You may want to reroute pin 20 coming off the serial side of the converter box to connect to pin 11 on the 'Bow. If 20 is indeed the ready/busy line then that should do the trick. I went through this whole exercize in reverse when I bought "Bozo the Clone" and connected my LA-50 to its serial port. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.14 * Origin: Chicago's BIT WIZ Opus HST (Net 115 NEC) (1:115/689.0) ------------------------------ Date: 28 Jan 91 16:24 -0500 From: JACK STEVENS To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: RE: CONNECT PARALLEL PRIN I have not had any experience with serial/parallel adaptors, but your problem sounds as if it might have to do with flow control. The serial side uses Xon/Xoff characters sent in the data stream. I don't know what the parallel printer uses. Perhaps there is an incompatibility. - --- * Origin: Midnight DEC - The BBS for DEC sales & information (Opus 1:101/45) ------------------------------ Date: 30 Jan 91 13:50 -0500 From: PAUL ROBINSON To: CARL HOUSEMAN Subject: RE: TETRIS FOR RB? Matter of fact, TWO packages arrived. COD label completely covered the address label on package for Dave Barnes, I didn't spot the discrepancy until the truck was out of sight. Package addressed to me contained one (1) LQP02 Printer. Have not opened the other (and do not intend to open it). Called UPS, I don't think they can (or will?) take action from this end. They think that the shipment was two of two, and that is what the paperwork indicated. I think you may have to raise the question at your end, at least get them trying to trace the missing package. The COD tag on Dave's box carried the number 855702, and that is the only identification I can find, other than your address and his address. The box for me was identified with two separate numbers, CO 800-X76 (Shipping Office?), and PKG ID # 9738-535. The box carried a date of 01/22/91. I'm willing to push from this end too, but I'm not sure just where to apply the pressure. Any suggestions? New subject: the printer will not (yet) respond to the computer, nor will it cycle into SELF TEST MODE. Any thoughts? I'll watch the board, will also monitor UPS!!! NOTE TO KURT: sorry to be so long-winded, but this has me a bit baffled; and thanks for being here when we needed you! hlh - --- ConfMail V3.31 * Origin: The Pot of Gold - (703-359-6549) (1:109/103) ------------------------------ Date: 30 Jan 91 07:41 -0500 From: GEORGE DAHLCO To: ALL Subject: UPDATED, VERIFED DECBBS.L DECBBS.LST Revision 8.0 - 62 nodes total February 01, 1991 National list of DEC-related BBS Systems.
