In case someone else is interested, the consensus is that there are two options for TeX on the Mac: (1) OzTeX is freeware available by anonymous ftp from midway.uchicago.edu or giza.ohio-state.edu. Apparently it is quite good. (2) TeXtures is a commercial version which uses standard Macintosh fonts for better or worse. -Ralph
