It turned out that it was due to a bad (flaky) SCSI-SCSI cable. This is a cable that I got free of charge from EduCorp when I bought the CD PortaDrive at the MacWorld Expo (SF) this year (yuck yuck yuck!). I noticed it by wiggling the cable on the connector while watching the "SCSI Bus not terminated" message with a cdev "SCSI Probe". Today I got a brand-new SCSI-SCSI cable from the local ComputerWare store and now everything is back in business. By the way, in my case, the cable configuration I ended up with is - IIci -----+ +-----------+ +-Terminator | | | | | | | | APS 45R Drive CDTech Drive This works for any combinations of APS and CDTech on/off status. I don't think neither APS 45R nor CDTech are internally terminated. Is it not right? - Nobu /*------ My original posting went out with a wrong Email address --- It should be - TOGE@slacvm.slac.stanford.edu Nobu Toge (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) ------------------------------------------------------------------*/ #include
