Message-ID: <14870@june.cs.washington.edu> Date: 4 Feb 91 10:41:02 GMT Sender: chou@cs.washington.edu Reply-To: chou@june.cs.washington.edu (Pai Chou) Distribution: usa Organization: U of Washington, Computer Science, Seattle Lines: 24 I am considering buying a portable, but my main concern is memory expansion. (I can get used to the LCD) What are the possible configurations? December '90 MacWorld says 2Meg - 9Meg, but I thought the standard config was 1 Meg. How hard is it to add more memory to a MacPortable? (do you need special tools to open the box?) Can you do it yourself? How hard is it compared to, say, a MacSE? (I've done it for a MacPlus and an SE) Is it just like SIMMs, or is it a lot trickier? Are there 3rd party memory expansions? Are they more expensive than SIMMs for regular Macs? If so, why? (special low power RAM? CMOS?) Apple charges about 7 times the regular SIMM price, or 50% more than Apple's SIMMs. Or should I wait for their notepad computer?
