I solved it by putting diskcopy on a floppy with a system folder and booted with that. Then I was able to get to the images on my hard disk. I also found that the cdev "diskmounter" (name maybe incorrect) worked fine for me. You can get it from America Online in the developer's/Apple section. It is a cdev that lets you mount diskcopy images as floppies.
