Keywords: SunOS 4.1.1 on a Sun4, OpenWindows, Printtool, Defaults Message-ID: <1991Feb1.101927.837@ifi.unizh.ch> Date: 1 Feb 91 10:19:27 GMT Sender: Rainer Sinkwitz Reply-To: sinkwitz@ifi.unizh.ch Organization: University of Zurich, Department of Computer Science Lines: 40 Has anybody succeeded to change defaults of a XView application which don't fall under the resources described in the xview.1 manpage ? Here are some defaults I'd very much like to be able to change: - internal fonts The -font, -fn, -Wt arguments only specify the default font of the application. To be able to run the printtool, perfmeter and calendar programs against another X-Server I was forced to convert, compile and install the fonts lucidasans-9, lucidasans-bold-9, screen.r.9 and Helvetica (alias) for the other server. - default printer in printtool I'm especially annoyed that the OpenWindows printtool doesn't read the PRINTER environment variable. When I start it, it always takes the first printer in /etc/printcap. This is not my printer. "printtool -\?" also doesn't yield further information. - default user@host in the calendar manager Since we have many workstations and some servers it is better to have all calendars on the same server host. So my default calendar should not be user@localhost but user@serverhost. I'm not able to change this. - default mail address in the calendar manager All this can normally be done if applications are built with the X-Toolkit (at the risk of breaking the application). With XView it is easier to change defaults (properties) if they are changeable. But if they are not ... ;-( Any ideas ? With regards...
