Don, I forgot to mention it, however he did take out the modem out altogether, as well as switching it around as I alluded to earlier.
As concerns the commport, we tried 1 through 4 I believe and nothing would work.  In case it would be helpfull, I use an Everex modem if you've ever heard of it.
