I don't know if this is good advice or not, but the file common/conf.h
in the file public/nntp.1.5.11.tar.Z on lib.tmc.edu doesn't look like
the write file to use.  I would recommend using common/conf.h.dist.
Whether this is good advice or not, I won't swear to, but it doesn't
look like it'll compile if you use conf.h.

I'm sure Stan will be posting a message about this soonly; I just wanted
to get the word out so people don't spend lots of time pulling their 
hair out.
