Patterson) The penetration of desert sand requires extremely dry soil, otherwise the radar will just bounce back. This may be fine in open desert but will probably not work in any areas where there is sufficient water to suport much of a local population. (SESAT had 20m ipr which was sufficient to detect ships and their wakes ). Tim
