There is a term in Equation 6 that I don't understand; it is F[j,i], "where F[j,i] is an unoriented spatial kernel." I can't find "unoriented spatial kernel" (or anything like it) in my neural networks books, and the Handbook of Mathematics mentions "kernel" only in reference to the function under an integral, and I don't see how that applies to the problem at hand. Can anyone help me? What is this function F[j,i]; can it be defined in simpler terms? If so, I will very much appreciate your reply.
