The full specification is available as one of the CCITT "Red Books": Volume VII, Fascicle VII.3, Terminal Equipment and Protocols for Telematic Services, The International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT), Geneva, 1985. I vaguely recall seeing a price list with $60 for this book, but don't take my word for it. Be warned, the fax protocols involve both digital and analog signal exchanges, timing rules, etc. It generally takes special hardware to make a fax machine. - PauL Drews
