I had a problem with loading DRDDOS unless I did a (really) cold boot - turned out to be a flakey disk. (2) A cold boot could make a difference if you had some strange software loaded, or if the BIOS does something extremely strange during start-up. Are you saying that it always works now, or always works after a cold boot, or just did once? (3) You don't have a virus, do you? Mark Aitchison.
