Can someone provide me with some information on source routing (or a pointer)?

Is source routing implemented at most sites?  
Is there a way to specify source routes in typical unix systems?
If a source route is used to initiate a connection, will it automatically  be
reversed for replies?
Does source routing cause a security problem (ie, one cannot trust an ip
address to connect to a given site)?
